>>> Patent Registration Requirements

The following documents/information are required to file a Patent application in U.A.E.

1. A Power of Attorney notarized and legalized up to the UAE Consulate.

2. A deed of assignment signed by the inventor/(s) assigning his/their rights in the patent to the applicant, if the applicant is not the inventor.

3. An extract from the Commercial Register or a certificate of incorporation legalized up to the UAE Consulate, if the applicant is a company.

4. Title, Abstract, specification, claims and drawings (if any) in both Arabic and English Languages.

5. A certified copy of the priority application if the applicant claims a convention priority.

5. A copy of the international publication, examination and search reports if the application is a national phase of a PCT application.

Note:

Requirements 1, 2, 3 and 5 above can be submitted to the Patent Office at the filing time or within 90 days from the filing date. The 90 days grace period is non-extendable and failure to submit the documents within the allowed period will lead the application to lapse.

Documents 1, 2 and 3 should be legalized by the UAE Consulate. Documents legalized by other Arab Consulates need to be super-legalized by the concerned Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then by the UAE Consulate in the concerned country. Accordingly, direct legalization from the UAE Consulate in the applicant's country is more cost and time effective

>>> Patent Assignment requirements

The following documents/information are required to file an Assignment application in U.A.E.

1. A deed of assignment, executed by both parties, or merger deed notarized and legalized by the UAE Consulate.

2. A power of attorney executed by the assignee, notarized and legalized by the UAE Consulate.

3. An extract from the Commercial Register or a certificate of incorporation for the assignee legalized up to the UAE Consulate, if the assignee is a company.

>>> Patent License Requirements

The following documents/information are required to file a Patent license application in U.A.E.

1. A license agreement, executed by both parties, notarized and legalized by the UAE Consulate.

2. A power of attorney executed by the licensee, notarized and legalized by the UAE Consulate.

3. An extract from the Commercial Register or a certificate of incorporation for the licensee legalized up to the UAE Consulate, if the licensee is a company

>>> Patent Change of Name/address Requirements

The following documents/information are required to record a change of name/address in U.A.E.

1. A Power of Attorney in the new name and/or address duly notarized & legalized up to the Consulate of the UAE.

2. A certificate proving the change of name or address issued by the local competent authority of the applicant's domicile legalized up to the Consulate of the UAE.

One power of attorney in the name of a client is sufficient to represent them in any number of Patents, recordals, amendments and other Patent matters as long as their name/address is not changed. In case of change of name/address or change of legal status, a fresh Power of Attorney showing the new applicant/Registrant details is required.
